There was nothing but darkness. I heard a sound behind me and turned, and came face to face with it. With its plunging green eyes, deeper than the depth of the sea, its chrome fangs, dripping crimson hints of satiation and its fiery orange scales, only slightly curving inwards towards the end, it stared right back at me, intimately observing the crinkling of my eyelids. The enigma stared, interrupting my thought session with a loud footstep. “THUD!” Its orange paw dramatically introduced itself to my big toe, only narrowly escaping its dramatic decrease.
The catastrophic situation I found myself entangled in led me to recall where I was and why I was there, and my mind tumbled back to that sunny school morning.
“When the days are cold and the cards all fold…”
Like every morning, I woke up with a jolt - it was time for school. The only thing that made waking up on a Monday morning easier was hearing Dan Reynolds blasting through the speakers. There were only two things I wanted to continue doing - crawl right back into bed or replay my alarm song.
Riding my bike along the pavement, my jamming session to Thunder (by, did you guess, Imagine Dragons) was interrupted with the ping of a text message from my friend. “Come to the secret hideout! Got something cool to give you.” My mind immediately sparked to the vision of a surprise gift of two tickets to Imagine Dragons’ concert as my birthday gift, and naturally I had to start planning my surprised reaction.
*crank*
The door to our secret hideout, otherwise known as the janitor’s closet in school, creaked open, and I was ready for my acting to begin. “I’m here!!!” I was expecting the familiar sinusoidal waves to enter my ears, but all I got back was the unfamiliar silence of darkness. Somewhere in the distance, I saw a light flicker, and I had my face ready to react. Suddenly I was violently shaken. My head hit the side of the dark, brick wall, and it didn’t take me long to realize that I had lost consciousness and fell victim to a flashback, and opened my eyes up to resume the intimate eye contact… with a dragon.
Surprise! Turns out it was all a joke - I spent the whole day at school cautiously walking around while glaring at my friends.
