You were my soulmate. I knew that —— ever since our eyes met. My world was suddenly filled with colors I'd never seen before: viridescent greens, fierce reds, calm blues. For the first time, I could see.
But when I looked at you, my face filled with awe and wonder, and asked whether you could see them too, you frowned.
"See what?" You had said, tilting your head, confusion evident on your face.
Even though you were my soulmate, I was never yours.
Still, even though it hurt, even though you would never be mine, I stood by your side. I protected your smile, your laugh, your sass, your everything. I protected it all because, even if it was only for a short while, your everything was mine.
Yet now, as I watch you marry the man of your dreams, the man I could never hope to be, I see your everything being taken from me. I see your everything being given to that man, that man I could never be me. An still I smile, for I would never let you see my tears, nor the breaking, the shattering of my heart.
I wonder —— in another life, would that dazzling smile have been mine? In another life, would I be the man of your dreams?
I love you, Mi Amor. Even if you would never be mine, even if, even if, even if...!
You were my soulmate. I knew that —— but you were never meant to be mine. I wonder... Ah, I wonder, if the world wasn't this cruel...
Perhaps you would've been mine.
