Ocean

As I look up to the sky,
And as people run and walk by,
I stop.
I stop to let the wind brush across my face,
I stop only to start again, this time slowing my pace,
And I lean over the bridge that is over the sea,
And I wonder what it would be like to be this free.
Wispy clouds cover the orange sky,
Birds chirp and birds sing, waiting for my reply.
But I have nothing to say and nothing much to do,
Perfectly content watching the ocean turn grey, then green, then blue.
Today the waves are peaceful,
Today the waves are quiet,
But tomorrow the waves might be choppy,
And tomorrow the waves might be sullen,
But knowing the waves today are tranquil,
Makes me just a little more grateful.
I start to leave, leaving the sea behind me,
As the scent of saltwater lingers in the air,
And I feel other people watching me trying not to stare,
But it doesn’t matter what other people think,
For I am by the sea,
Where I feel I am meant to be.
